メリークリスマス。
こちらのクリスマスは日本の元旦といった感じで家族と過ごすのが一般的。
朝のまちはひっそり人通りも少なく、スーパーなどもぜんぶお休みです。
Merry Christmas! Christmas here in Sydney (same as other western countries) is very similer to the New Year's day in Japan. Most of the restaurants and stores are closed and we see few people on the street in the morning.
今日は夕方までオフです。CYCにサンタが来ると聞いたので遊びに行ってきました。
We went to CYC as we heard that Santa was coming there.
プレゼントもらいました。こちらに来てから寒くもないし、師走の感触も全くしないし、
クリスマスの気分が全然なかったのですが、やっと味わえました。
We got some christmas presents! I finally felt christmas atomosphere. I didn't feel it's christmas time as it is not cold and people are not busy with getting ready for a New Year (In Japan, New Year is a much bigger deal than Christmas)
メディアにいっぱい囲まれました。早速夜のニュースで流れてました。
残念ながら私たちが見てたチャンネルは我がチームの部分はカット！
もっともっと騒いだほうがよかったのかな。
A lot of media came and the story was broadcasted in the evening news on TV.
Unfortunatelly, we were not shown in the news program that we watched.
Should we have been excited more?

夜は応援組も交えてのチームディナーで中華へ！
Team dinner with people from Japan at a Chinese restaurant.
さて、いよいよ明日26日午後1時（日本時間午前11時）スタートです。
北と南2本のスタートラインに分かれ、北は大きい船（ディビジョン0から2の32艇）、南はそれ以外の船のスタートラインになります。2本のラインの間隔はたった0.2マイル。マニューバリングエリアも非常にせまいです。また、過去の色んな写真を見ると分かるように、スタート後はものすごい数（聞いた話では5,000とか？ホントか？！）の観覧艇がうようよレース艇を追いかけるので、その間を縫うように走らなければいけません。スタートで攻めるかどうかがのちのち大きく影響してくるらしいので、ヘルムのオーナー、バウマンいげい隊長、タクティシャン高木さんの腕の見せ所です。
The race starts at 1pm tomorrow (11am in Japan). There will be two start lines and Bengal7 starts from the northern line with 32 other Division 0, 1, and 2 boats. Other boats will start from the southern line which is only 0.2 mile away from the northern line. Maneuvering area is really small. Plus a lot of spectator boats will follow the racing boats, so the racing boats have to thread their way through those spectator boats. Whether we can be offensive or not will be the key to how we sail the rest of the race.
日本でのSSSCの取得、レースのレギュレーションに合わせた船の改造、こちらについてからも色々なハードルも色んな人の協力のおかげで乗り越え、やっとのことで明日スタート。帆走指示書も公示もボリューミーなのは、気象が過酷になる可能性が高いと分かっていながらのレース開催＆出場だからこその色々な細かいルール＆準備の指示なんだなというのが分かります。
Thanks to everyone who worked for us, we got over all the process such as SSSC in Japan, upgrading the boat in obedience to the regulation, and some other little stuff after arriving in Sydney. Now I can understand why the documents are so detailed, why we have to go through a long inspection. They are the preparation for this hard and rough race.
毎晩ひーひー言いながら内容の確認をした帆走指示書は全26ページ、1/3は一般的なルール、1/3はコミュニケーション、1/3は安全に関することといった感じ。無線は1日3回のポジションレポートと1回のリスニング（天気などの情報）があります。なかなかあわただしいです。
ちなみにレース公示は14ページ。英語だし、気合入れないと読めません。
Sailing Instruction that we stayed up late and had hard time understanding contains 26 pages. 1/3 is a basic rule, 1/3 reffers to the radio communication, and another 1/3 explains safety. A boat have to report its position three times a day at designated time and have to listen to the radio once a day for information from the race committee. By the way, Notice of Race contains 14 pages.
Both are wrtten in English (of course) and are long, we needed a lot of motivation to read through them.
数日前からテレビでもよくホバートレースが放映されてます。スーパーで大量に買い物をして店員さんに何のためだ、と聞かれたときにホバートレースだ、と答えるとみんな目の色が変わります。ホリデーシーズンにシドニーの街の人たちみんなが注目するスポーツゲーム。さー、明日はシドニー湾はお祭り騒ぎです。
Everyone in Sydney knows the race and are interested in the result. We hear a lot of story of the race on TV recently. People are really interested in who's gonna win the race every year.
There is going to be a big big party in Sydney Bay tomorrow!

先週からシドニー在住になったわけですが、まゆこがここにいることに今さっき気づいたよ。そして今日はレーススタートを観戦しにいく予定だよ。いっぱいいる中からまゆこを見つけられるかわからないけど、、、応援してます！Have a safe sailing!!!
