We sensed a land last morning as we saw more birds and insects, then in the
afternoon, we found the land. The sunset yesterday went behind the land. Sea
breeze started to blow in the evening and it let us sail at 6-7kt, but the
SOG was 8-10kt. Thanks to the current! When the wind went down in the late
night and boat speed went down to 0kt, SOG was still 8kt. Wow. I heard this
current was in the movie, Fiding Nimo.

As we got tired of past sauce from the market, we tried retort foods for
pasta sauce. Some used curry, some used taco rice sauce. They were all
great. Since we have a cook this time and cooked almost everyday, we have a
lot of retort foods and canned foods left. Sometimes, crew gave me some idea
for meals. Yesterday, when Ando talked about the chanchan-yaki (fishermen's
salmon dish), everyone advised that I could cook it with canned salmon, so I
tried. I put canned salmon, a lot of onion, canned corn in the foil, and put
miso and sweet sake on top, and cover everything with the foil and heat it
in the pan. After 15-20 minutes, delicouse chanchan-yaki is ready.

I hope I can report that we are in the harbor in tomorrow blog.

Today's photo: The battery of the water proof camera, one of my important
items for delivery sailing since last year, looks broken. I couldn't take
pics yesterdat, so this is the photo from earlier day. The water maker does
not draw the seawater well, so Ando uses the pipe and the hand pump in the
toilet to draw water. It is a lot of work. Also, the pump in the galley does
not work well, so I have to move the water that the water maker makes into
plastic bottles from the tank. Everyone says I look so depressed when I work
in front of the water maker.

We had to tack as the wind shifted from North to South and had to sail down
to 140. After the tacking, we headed 280, which brought us to North a little
bit but we were aiming to get close to the land to sail South with the
current. The wind calm down in the afternoon and right before the midnight,
wind went up and we sailed at 9-10kt with down wind for about 4 hours. We
are now sailing with light wind.

We notified the Australian Custom office that we'd be arriving on 8th. I
think we will approach to the entrance of the harbor before the sunrise and
will sail into the barbor after the sunrise. I heard that the harbor is very
busy with a lot of ferries in the morning.

Today's photo: Jin using the special spray that our team mate made. It's
called "cooling down spray". I took this pic when it was so hot about 2
weeks ago, and was going to put this on the blog when it gets hot again. But
it is still cool out here and doesn't look like it will get hotter.......

We are trying to adjust the boat speed to avoid the trough around Sydney. We
take off the main sail and over trim the JIB, it's kinda sad. The current
gave us 1.5-2.0kt plus last night and maximum boat speed was 10kt. We don't
know if we should be happy or not.

The questions recently risen on the deck
Wireless Fiber?
1. What does WiFi snatd for? Wireless Fiber?

2. What is the difference between a manaty (don't know how to spell it) and
a asea pig?

3. What did Japanese people in old era eat on the boat?
Did they bring chickens and have them deliver eggs? Dried fish? Did they
cook rice?
We just respect them that they reached places where they wanted to. We
assume that they were more sensitive to the nature. By the way, we wonder
how they did with the itchy butt without oil skins, baby wipes, ointment?

We can stick with these kind of conversation forever. What a happy team!

Today's photo: Standing up to his full hight in front of the pedestal.
Furukawa's usual position and pose. Floating wreckage, boats, life......he
doesn't miss anything.

We talk about what we want to eat after arriving at Sydney recently a lot.
We're planning to eat row oyster, shrimp cocktail, cold white wine, and
bread for the first dinner. Anyone has a recommendation?

We have sailed over 4,500 mile!

After installing back the vang in the calm condition yesterday morning, it
started thundering. Although we had had lightning many times before, this is
the first time it made big sounds. Even if I was on the land, it was scary.
We took off the sail. While Ando went into the cabin to turn off all the
electricity, the 40kt wind and heavy rain came. A few minutes later, the
wind went down and the rain got weaken, but the thunder st8ll remained. We
tied the steering wheel and all evacuate in the cabin. As the boat that
Furukawa belongs to have been struck by thunder, he advised that we should
stay away from the mast. So we all sat around the chart table.

After a while, the sun came out! We dried oil skins, life vests, shirts,
boots, everything, Usually, clouds come and hide the sun when we get excited
at the sun, but this time it did not. The sun stayed till the evening, The
sunset was amazingly beautiful. We cerebrated it with cold beer. After the
sunset, we enjoyed billions of stars before the moon rose.

The nice weather is continuing. It is great morning with cool wind and shiny
sunlight.

After the sundown yesterday, the sheet inside the vang came apart. We took
off the vang completely in the dark as the moon did not rise yet and the
slouds hided the stars. We put the vang back this morning. There is a damage
on the deck hit by the vang when it came off.

We could see the sun for two hours yesterday right before the sundown, but
it got cloudy when the sun went down It rained on and off yesterday again.
As it was cold in the night one of the crew wore a knit cap.

Ando and Furukawa team saw the Southern Cross last night! Finally.
