I finally washed my hair this morning, so refreshed. I thought I
wouldn't have chance when I missed a warm day a few days ago. However,
since I could not stand with my nasty hiar, I decided to wash it even
though it was cold outside.

We folated around for a while last night when the wind decreased to 6kt,
but it came back to 10kt now (not enought though).
Less than 1,000miles to go. I like it as I feel the number changes so
fast after 1,000 miles.

Although the outside is cold, inside the cabin is still warm. Furukawa
told me it was like a fridge when he went up more North in 2009. But we
still can feel the coldness through the hull now. We usually attatch a
picknick mat made by sponge and silver sheet when we leave Japan.
However, we couldn't find the same kind in Hawaii, we use cheap yoga
mats instead. It prevents coldness well, the size is perfect for the
bunk wall, and the color of light green gives nice atomosphere to my
room (bunk). Great.

By the way, I found out that "JST" (Japan Standard Time) is not a
standard way to tell the time. I should use GST+9, I guess.

This boat is really amazing that we can sail at 9kt only with the
delivery (small) jib. However, sailing only with the jib put a load to
the auto pilot, crew drive occasionally to give him a break.

Contrary to what we always expect when we sail in the north Pacific, it
looks like we will sail in up winds all the way to Marina del Rey. Well,
this is what sailing is, running with winds. I hope we can arrive on 17th.

A lot of fhising nets are floating and we sometimes are caught by them.
They look not so old as they don't have shells around. I wonder where
they are from.

As I mentioned yesterday, it's getting colder and colder. Toilet seat is
cold. Water is cold when I wash rice, so I am cheating, using a rice
scoop to wash rice as Kokichi always did. Bad stiff shoulders as I put
heavier gear. I need a bathtub and a massage.

I recently try to cook hot (warm) soup or spicy food esoecially for
supper. We had seafood curry with shripms, squid, clam, and vegitable
last night. Then I cooked curry soup for breakfast by putting soy base
soup in the leftover and toasted mochi in it.

By the way, there are a lot of Japanese foods in Hawaii which are called
as they are in Japan. Mochi, Onigiri, Daikon, etc. But people in Hawaii
use the term "mochi" for "daifuku" kind of foods, not unsweeten rice
cake that we call mochi. My friend took me to "mochi ice" place where
they sell many flavors of ice inside mochi, like Yukimi Daifuku in
Japan. I guess this kind of ice cream shop can be a big hit in Japan. I
don't know why we don't have one.

Morimori studies a new software for the race. He found DHA tablets that
we bought in Japan back in November and takes them everyday. I don't
think he needs it as he is already way too smart. So I decided that I
take some too to cacth him up.
He covers everything when he sleeps as it is cold. I can't tell which
side is his head.

People sleep in fore bunks started use second sleeping bags. It was nice

Since the boat heeled bad with the NE 18kt wind and waves were also not
good, we pulled the main down in this morning. After a while, the wind
went down to 13kt....waves are still not good. I feel so frustlated on
the chart table chair as I feel a lot of shock of the punchings from the
bottom.
We are not heading to the direction which we NOW want to go, however we
are actually heading directly to the final destination. I hope we can
keep going to this direction....which barely can happen.

We saw families of whales, double rainbows, and a lot of stars
yesterday. A lot of happy things. Whales were found by Furukawa as you
can imagine. He is always the one who finds things in the ocean. By the
way, we have seen some wreckage since the second day, and we recently
see a lot of big fish nets floating. Some got stuck to our prop yesterday.

Let me introduce in what kind of position the crew sleep.
The skipper often sleeps with his arms folded in front of his chest.
Morimori with a towel on his face and have his head on his side,
sometimes leaves his mouth half open. Furukawa lies on his side with one
leg bent, clenches his fists. Jin with both his arms raises to his head.
Me? I don't know because I'm sleeping but I guess I sleep with my leg
folded inside my sleeping bag and arms on Banzai position. Maybe eyes
are half open I believe.

Since neither Kokichi or Ken is here, we hear no one talking in his sleep.

We are still running with the motor. The wind shifted from South to
East, and now North. Will the wind go up to 20kt tomorrow really? If so,
I won't be able to take much time on cooking anymore.

We celebrated the passing of the latitude of Marina del Rey and
1,000mile sailing with lunch and supper yesterday. We had inari, sushi
rolls and bamboo & seaweed soysauce stew for lunch and had whole wheat
fettuccine with cream sauce, broil oil sardine in foil, and red wine for
dinner.

The boat speed is good for Kenken (towing fishing equipment) but it
doesn't look like we can catch anything. No birds around, no bonito
crown, or no flying fish. Well, we still can try.

頭洗いたいけど、風が冷たいので迷い中。日差しはぽかぽかなんだけどね。
I want to wash my hair but the wind is a bit cold though the sunlight is
really warm.
